- When Hitler embarked on the Final Solution in 1941 - the physical extermination of all Jews in Europe – the Japanese Imperial Army had already massacred 300,000 Chinese and publicly raped upwards of 20,000 women and children in a Nanking population of 500,000 in a space of 14 weeks. And that was just Nanking, China. The year was 1937.
- It was the opening phase of Japan’s killing rampage in Asia, stretching from the Siberian border to the equator and beyond.
- Yet, out of the ashes of World War II, whenever we speak of Nazi Germany, we think of the Holocaust, Auschwitz, and other death camps.
- But we speak of Japan, we think of Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and Japan as a pitiful victim of the U.S. atomic bomb rather than as an aggressor who committed unspeakable atrocities to its neighbors in Asia.
